For me, I’ve always been a fan of the 6AM Bikram Yoga classes and it’s not because I’m a morning person. No way. Not even close. Trust me, getting up at 4:45AM for a 6AM yoga class is extremely difficult. Getting out of bed and into the studio is the hardest part about yoga for me. There’s a lot of pep talking that’s involved. You know how many times I’ve talked myself into staying in bed and skipping class? Countless!
Why do I prefer to get up so early to practice yoga? There are so many reasons. I love being in the hot studio when it’s dark and cold outside. I love getting my yoga out of the way first thing in the morning because it gives me so much pep in my step for the rest of the day. When I go to the 6AM class, I don’t have to worry about talking myself out of going to class after work because with work, something always seems to come up at the end of the day – trying to meet a deadline, wanting to send out one last email or crossing one more thing off the To Do list.
I also love how the 6AM classes aren’t nearly as busy as the after work classes. Going to an early morning class usually means I’ll be able to set up in my favorite spot in the room and have plenty of space around me to practice. I love having my space in a yoga class. I’ve never been a fan of the super crowded classes.
With every studio I’ve ever practiced at, the 6AM crew tends to be a diehard bunch. I love being a part of this crew. There’s something really comforting about seeing the same familiar faces early in the morning. We get out of bed, we show up, we do the yoga and then we’re on our way with the day before 8am. I’ve heard multiple teachers comment during class how they love teaching the 6AMers because those of us who come to practice are so dedicated. Hearing that is pretty motivating to want to keep coming back every morning.
