Before I hiked the Pacific Crest Trail this year in 2018, I never, in a million years, thought my little hike in the woods would inspire so many of you to want to follow along. Thank you so much for inspiring and motivating me right back with all of your loving comments, words of support and generous sponsorship of my PCT trip registry.
One thing I wish I had done more during my 2018 PCT hike was take more videos, especially in the beginning when I was hiking through the desert in Southern California. I took a fair amount of photos, but I wish I would’ve taken more and a whole lot more video. My photos and videos have made it fun and easy for me to share with all of you my trail stories and my favorite (and not so favorite) moments along the trail.
This month, I had the opportunity to speak to four different high school classes here in Seattle where I used some of the photos and videos from my 2018 PCT hike to share my experience with them. I talked to the students about what it was like to hike the PCT, shared with them my favorite sections of the trail, my hardest days, my biggest fears and how I overcame them, how I journaled every single night on trail and how I blogged about my journey without having a regular internet connection.
This year for my 2019 PCT hike, I want to give back to those of you who want to support me along my adventure. This is why I’ve created a Patreon page.
What Is Patreon?
Patreon is an online, crowdfunding platform for creators. Think of it as an ongoing Kickstarter campaign with one key difference – rather than getting paid once per project, artists and creators are paid by their patrons (you or whoever signs up to be a patron) to continue creating on an ongoing basis.
Why I Created A Patreon Page
I want to take each and every one of you along with me as I hike my way from Mexico to Canada. I want to take better photos and shoot more video during my PCT thru-hike in 2019. This is where Patreon comes in. Here’s your chance to be my very own trail angel and play a HUGE part in my PCT thru-hike adventure without having to take a single step. Being one of my patrons will help make my thru-hike possible. The money I raise with Patreon will go towards things I’ll need along the trail like showers, loads of laundry, meals, gear I need to replace from last year (new water filter, new sleeping pad, warmer sleeping bag and a nicer digital camera so I can up the photo and video quality of the footage I take this year), town stops, food resupplies and the occasional stay in a hotel room where I’ll be able to sleep in a warm, clean bed.
The difference between the trip registry I had last year and Patreon is with Patreon, I have the ability to give back to my patrons, based off of the tier of support they choose. When you become one of my patrons, you’ll have access to a number of fun rewards for as little as $1/month. Some of the rewards I’m offering my patrons include a monthly, live Q&A where you can ask me questions in real time about hiking, my PCT hike, how I prepared for my hikes, advice on how to prepare for your own hike, gear questions and suggestions, blogging, how to manage social media AND once I get on trail in April, get live updates from me along the trail.
I have tons of video footage I took on the PCT in 2018 that I’ll only be sharing on my Patreon page – another reward when you become one of my patrons. I’ve already posted quite a few videos on my Patreon page. I’ll continue to post new, exclusive videos from my 2018 PCT hike, multiple times a week, before I leave to get back on trail in April. For those of you who are old school like me and love receiving fun things in the mail, I’ve also included an option to receive a handwritten postcard from me, from any one of the towns I stop in along the PCT this year.
Being a part of my Patreon community gives you direct access to my stream. It’s a place where you can chat with me, see exclusive videos from my hikes and be an active part of my hike like no one else can, unless you’re Bleeder and you’re hiking the PCT with me.
I’m super excited about creating a community on Patreon where I can share my 2019 PCT with my biggest fans. Thank you all for your continued love and support. I can’t wait to hike the PCT (again) with all of you!
